From Asmbly Wiki

Ceramics stewardship at Asmbly is crucial to the success of the shop and grants access to unique membership benefits. As a ceramics steward, you will be responsible for assisting members, prepping class materials, and maintaining the shop. Here’s what you need to know about ceramics stewardship.

Ceramics Steward Duties

Member Assistance

  • Help members with clay and tool knowledge
  • Answer questions and provide guidance

Class Support

  • Trim leather-hard cylinders for Beginner Wheel classes
  • Glaze student pieces (for those who opted for glazing service)
  • Assist non-members in accessing their finished class pieces

Studio Maintenance

  • Clean and organize the studio to ensure a safe and functional space
  • Report Problems to the appropriate channels
  • Create and update wiki pages for ceramics equipment
  • Host CSIs (Ceramics Studio Introduction classes)

Ceramics Steward Requirements

In order to become a ceramics steward, you must:

  • Complete all base volunteer requirements
  • Complete a training with the Ceramics Shop Lead
  • Commit to a minimum of 8 volunteer hours per month within ceramics to maintain eligibility for benefits
    • Volunteers who commit to 4 volunteer hours per week within ceramics will receive an additional full shelf to share

Volunteer Opportunities

To best help Asmbly, you can sign up to volunteer during the below time blocks. These time blocks can be broken down into two or three hour blocks if needed.

  • Mondays: 4 PM - 8 PM
  • Wednesdays: 4 PM - 8 PM (host CSI 7-9p)
  • Saturdays: 12 PM - 4 PM (host CSI 12:30-2:30p)

If you cannot commit to 2-4 hours within these time blocks, you can absolutely volunteer at other times by editing wiki pages, cleaning the shop, trimming cylinders, etc.

Ceramics Steward Benefits and Terms

To recognize volunteer contributions, we offer credits toward membership and shelf space. 16 volunteer hours = One month of ceramics space access (in addition to the rest of the Asmbly shops) + a shared full shelf space (24″ x 48″ x ~12″)
