Laguna TFlux 5 Dust Collector
Woodshop dust control is handled by a Laguna T|Flux:5 cyclone dust collector. Blast gates on all tools are automatic but we're still working on automatic stop/start; for now, users must manually turn on the dust collector before using a woodworking tool.
Note that the filter self-cleaning feature makes somewhat alarming noises. Flapping/crackling when the motor starts up and shuts down, and periodically during operation, is normal as the actuator bangs the pleats of the cartridge filter.
When emptying the dust bin, also check and empty the pan below the filter cartridge if sawdust is visible in the viewing window.

iVac Automatic Dust Collector Control
Usage Notes
- The dust collector will automatically turn on and off. It is still the users responsibility to make sure the dust collector is on before using a woodshop tool.
- When turning on a tool when the dust collector is off, please give it a 10 seconds or so for the dust collector to spin up before using the tool.
- When changing the dust bin:
- Please make sure other users are aware and do not use any tools
- Turn the switch on the yellow box on the dust collector to "off" instead of "auto".
- Return the mode to "auto" after the bin has been emptied.
- The control is programmed to remain on for 8 minutes after all tools are shut off. The prevents a lot of starts and stops.
Mode | LED |
---|---|
Standby | LED flases every 4 seconds |
On | LED on |
8 minute off timer | LED flashes 2x or 5x per second |
Implementation
The iVac MSC Advantage Dust Collector Control has a remote which is programmed to control the dust collector. The MSC advantage is programmed to use iVac system address A. When any tool on that system address is turned on or off, the control monitors that and turns the dust collector on or off appropriately.
Since ASMBLY has two different iVac System Addresses, an iVac Pro Control is used to monitor system address C, and trigger a tool sensor on system address A. The iVac Tool Advantage Sensor has a trigger input which allows this. Refer to IVac_System_setup_of_Single_DC_and_multiple_system_addresses.pdf for an example. This allows the iVac MSC Advantage to monitor both system address A and B.
The daisy chain setup is plugged in high above the router table.
Troubleshooting Automatic Control
- If a tool is not triggering the dust collector, verify the tool sensor is working correctly.
- verify iVac MSC is set to "auto"
- verify tool sensor is set to "auto"
- verify tool sensor LED is lit when the tool is turned on
- If the tool is on system address C, verify iVac switch above router table is activated when the tool is turned on
- There should be a blue led you can see when it is activated
- This iVac switch should be set to auto
- The tool sensor it is connected to should be set to "off-ext"
- Try turning all tools off, turn automatic control to off, then back to auto.
- If the dust collector is not turning off
- verify iVac MSC is set to "auto"
- Check iVac MSC LED, if light steadily, it thinks a tool is on
- Verify nothing sneaky a turned on, examples:
- South Bend sander master power enabled, but belt not running
- Drum Sander belt running
- A tool sensor set to "on" instead of "auto"
- Check iVac MSC LED, if blinking at 4x per second, DC should shut off within 8 minutes
- Try turning all tools off, turn automatic control to off, then back to auto.
