We have a Kenmore 158.17520 sewing machine. It likely dates back to the mid-1970's so it has a lot of metal and will last forever with reasonable care and feeding.
Unfortunately we don't currently have any of the templates or pattern disks that make it more interesting than your regular household sewing machine, but it's still an approachable general purpose workhorse.
