Shop Area Leads Program

Asmbly would not be capable of offering quality shop areas without the guidance and leadership of volunteers who have expertise and/or passion in each area.  To empower these individuals to the fullest and reward them for their contributions, we have a Shop Area Leads Program.

Qualifications

While Shop Area Leads are not required to have expert-level knowledge in their designated shop area (although we love when they do!), they do need to have some depth of knowledge. It's not about being the smartest person in the shop. It's about being knowledgable and interested enough to learn what you don't know and lead other stewards in your shop area to maintain the space.

These are the basic requirements:

• Asmbly Member who shares our goal to empower and inspire creatives
• Related experience or interest in shop area
• Be a steward for at least 1 month (does not have to be in the shop area you lead)
• Good communication and people skills
• Membership is in good standing

Responsibilities

Shop Area Leads are a vital part of the Leadership Team at Asmbly. They are a driving force in progress and improvements made to individual shops. As such, they have several responsibilities in the space.

• Oversee volunteer stewards within designated shop area (including teaching/onboarding)
• Help develop and maintain maintenance logs and service schedules
• Ensure necessary equipment and supplies are ordered
• Develop and maintain budget with assistance of the Facilities Coordinator
• Report issues within their shop area to the Facilities Coordinator
• Ensure proper signage is on equipment and in designated shop area
• Update Wiki as needed for equipment in designated shop area
• Monitor Slack communications and subscribe to Discourse Category for their shop area
• Assist members with questions and problems both in person and through monitoring appropriate area in Discourse
• Provide input on work day tasks for designated shop area at least 2 weeks in advance of scheduled work days in order to provide the time for ordering necessary materials

• Free membership — No need to log hours like the On-Duty Volunteer program.
• Free classes — Take as many classes as you want for free. We want you to thrive creatively and be knowledgable about what we offer on the education front.
• Free storage — Leads receive ongoing storage space to store things whether they are relevant to their volunteer work or personal projects. Because our paid storage space is very limited, the storage space provided to leads may be in alternative locations (area to be determined with each lead individually).
