Grizzly G0569 - 24" 7-1/2 HP 3-Phase Industrial Bandsaw

  • Motor: 7.5 HP
  • Max cutting width: 24-1/2 in.
  • Max cutting height: 16-1/4 in.
  • Table size: 33-1/2 in. x 23-5/8 in.
  • Wheel type: Computer-Balanced Cast Iron
  • Blade size: 181 in.

Safety

Universal Safety

  • Be aware of your surroundings, especially when handling large materials.
  • Do not approach anyone operating equipment. Stand patiently in their field of view.
  • Use PPE, including filtration and eye protection, when handling dust or emptying dust/shaving containers.

Equipment-Specific Safety

  • Do not cut metal with this tool. This bandsaw is to be used for wood only.
  • Only use this saw for resawing or straight cuts. No curves.
  • No adjustments allowed, except for Fence & Cutting height. Do not adjust bearings or tension. Do not release tension.
  • If you are cutting logs, you must use a fixture. You will have to build your own. You must also run a metal detector across logs.
  • Check the blade before and after cutting for residue buildup from milling- this is easily cleaned.

For this saw, the brake pedal should be used as the primary "off button". Lightly pressing on the brake pedal will turn off power to the saw, however it will still take a little while for the blade to stop running. (This is per Grizzly Technical Support, and is not stated in their current version manual).

The red button on the power panel is the EMERGENCY off button. If you use this button, you will need to twist it to reset it. It will take the blade more than a minute to come to a stop after pressing the off button, the brake pedal can be used to bring the blade to a stop faster. Only stomp heavily on the brake pedal or use the red off button in an emergency.

Use Case

The Grizzly G0569 is used for resawing. It can be used to rough cut lumber from logs, cut lumber into thinner segments, and even make your own veneers!

Materials

Acceptable Materials

Only wood should be cut on this bandsaw. If you are cutting raw logs, please use one of the metal detectors in the shop to double check the log for any metal. If you are cutting logs, you must use a fixture. You will have to build your own.

Maximum Sizes and Weights

  • Max cutting width: 24-1/2 in.
  • Max cutting height: 16-1/4 in.

Consumables

If the saw throat plate is damaged, please submit a problem report via the red QR code on the machine. Spare throat plates (if available currently) are stored in the bottom cabinet of one of the smaller bandsaws.

This saw takes a 180" blade. We typically equip it with a 1" 3tpi Timber Wolf resaw blade.

  • No blade changes - If you notice a problem with the blade, please submit a problem report via the red QR code on the machine.

Setup

Using this tool requires you to book time in Skedda under "Woodshop - User 1-6" or another Woodshop slot.

1. Ensure Dust Collection is Turned On

This bandsaw is attached to the main dust collector for the shop. Make sure that the main dust collector is on and functioning before using this tool.

2. Set Cutting Height

Start by turning the screw wheel (Black, on the back of the machine) counter clockwise until loose to release the lock on the guide adjustment wheel (Silver, on the right side of the machine). Only move the guide adjustment wheel when it has been unlocked.

Once unlocked, rotate the guide adjustment wheel until the guide wheels are no higher than 1/4" above the piece you will be cutting.

3. Set Fence depth

Adjust the fence by raising the lever on the front of the machine to loosen it, and lowering it to tighten the fence once set in the correct position. The fence likes to shift when being tightened down, so ensure it stays in the correct spot.

The cast-iron fence isn't super tall. We keep sacrificial MDF fences around to help with resawing taller material.

4. Optional: Set Up Roller Stands

If you are cutting a piece of wood that is too large to be balanced on the table throughout the cut, please use one of the many roller stands to support your work both on the infeed and outfeed sides of the saw.

Basic Operation

1. Turn On Saw

Using the green power button, turn the saw on. If the saw does not start, check the following:

  • The key must be turned to "on"
  • The red emergency stop button must not be depressed (twist it to ensure this is the case)
  • The foot brake should be lifted (a few mm of drop here can stop the saw from turning on, so even though it may look raised all the way it is often not)

2. Align Workpiece With Fence

The wood you are cutting should be pressed up against the fence during the entire cut. There are featherboards hung on the wall next to the bandsaw, as well as magnetic fingerboards etc stored by the miter saw.

3. Feed Workpiece Through Saw

While ensuring it stays in contact with the fence, very lightly feed the wood through the saw. There should be no discernable force required to do so- if you can feel that you are pushing *into* the sawblade you're cutting too fast. Take care not to push the workpiece around while feeding it to ensure an even and straight cut.

4. Turn Saw off With Footbrake

For this saw, the brake pedal should be used as the primary "off button". Lightly pressing on the brake pedal will turn off power to the saw, however it will still take a little while for the blade to stop running. You can lightly press on the brake to speed up this process, but avoid stomping on the brake unless there is an emergency.

Cleanup

Universal Cleaning Guide

  • Return the equipment to neutral.
  • Sweep up any dust and debris around the tool, your table top, and the floor - both in the equipment area and your work area.
  • Clear the floor of any tripping hazards, like power cords.
  • Empty trash cans and dust collectors that are halfway full or more into the Asmbly dumpster behind the workshop.
  • Leave the shop 110% better than you found it.

Tool Specific Cleaning Guide

  • Make sure the saw is turned off before cleaning
  • Use a brush/broom (or vacuum) to clean off all exterior surfaces of the saw as well as the floor around it.
  • Use a vacuum to clear the bottom "cabinet" of the saw of any sawdust built up throughout your use
  • Check to see if residue has built up around the blade, rollers, or wheels. They are easily cleaned off using the Simple Green cleaning solution and a brush or blade scraper. (Scraper can be found at the tool wall, brushes are in the microjig cleaning bin).
  • Check to see if the throat plate of the saw was damaged during operation- if so, please submit a problem report using the red QR code on the machine.
  • Return any fingerboards etc to their rightful place within the shop.
